What is the Working Holiday Visa 462 and 417?

The Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) allows young adults from eligible countries to holiday in Australia while working to supplement their travel funds. This visa provides an excellent opportunity for cultural exchange and exploration. And the Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417) is designed for young adults from specific countries to holiday in Australia while being able to undertake short-term work to support their trip.

For young adults who want an extended holiday and to work here to fund it. The duration of stay is up to 12 months. And you can work for up to 6 months with one employer. Moreover, you can study for up to 4 months with all the streams of this visa. Here’s a list of Basic Eligibility for All Streams:  

  • Must be 18 to 30 years old (inclusive) 
  • Must have a passport from an eligible country 
  • Must not be accompanied by dependent children

  • not have previously entered Australia on a subclass 462 or 417 visa. If you previously entered Australia on a subclass 462 visa, see the second Work and Holiday visa. 

Second Working Holiday Visa  

  • have previously entered Australia on a subclass 462 visa.  
  • if in Australia, hold a substantive visa or your last substantive visa expired less than 28 days ago 
  • have completed 3 months of specified subclass 462 work 

Third Working Holiday Visa  

  • Must hold or have held a second Working Holiday (Subclass 417) visa. 
  • Must have completed six months of specified work in regional Australia while on their second 417 visa. 
  • if in Australia, hold a substantive visa or your last substantive visa expired less than 28 days ago 
  • have undertaken 6 months of specified subclass 462 work

Application Process for Working Holiday Visa 462 and 417 

  • Step 1: Eligibility Check 

Confirm that you meet all criteria: 

  • Age Requirement: You must be aged between 18 and 30 years (inclusive) at the time of application. 
  • Passport: Ensure you hold a valid passport from an eligible country. For Subclass 462, countries include the USA, China, Indonesia, and others. For Subclass 417, eligible countries include the UK, Canada, Germany, and others. 
  • Educational Requirements (Subclass 462): You must have a tertiary qualification or have successfully completed at least two years of undergraduate university study. 
  • English Proficiency (Subclass 462): Demonstrate functional English proficiency, which can be proven through various tests like IELTS or TOEFL. 
  • Financial Requirements: Have sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay in Australia and for your departure at the end of your stay.  
  • Health and Character: Meet Australia’s health and character requirements, which may include undergoing a medical examination and providing police certificates.

  • Step 2: Documentation 

Prepare the required documents: 

  • Valid Passport: Ensure your passport is valid for the entire duration of your stay in Australia. 
  • Proof of Funds: Bank statements or other financial documents showing sufficient funds for your stay and departure.
