Student Visa

The Student visa (subclass 500) allows you to remain in Australia for the purpose of full-time study at an educational institution, in line with your enrolment.

With this visa you can:

  • Take part in an eligible course of study
  • Include your family members in your application (your partner or you and your partner’s dependent child.
  • Apply online in or outside Australia
  • Work up to 48 hours every 2-week period once your course starts.
 
Student Visa

Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485)

  1. After studying in Australia, you might become eligible for Post Study Work Visa (subclass 485).There are 2 streams for this visa:

    1. Graduate Stream – this is for international students who have recently graduated with qualifications that are relevant to specific occupations Australia needs. It lets you live, study and work in Australia temporarily.
    2. Post Study Work Stream- you can apply in this stream if you have finished a degree course in Australia. The table below provides detailed information on how many years of post

*You may be eligible to apply for a second Post Study Work stream visa. To do this you must live, work, and/or study in a regional area while holding your first post-study work visa. That visa must have been granted on the basis of a degree or higher from an Australian institution located in a regional area.

** From 1st July 2023, the Government is addressing skills shortages by extending post-study work rights for international students who have graduated from an Australian higher education provider with specific degrees. The list of CRICOS courses that are eligible for a 2-year extension is shared by Govt and can be found here.

*** Australia is categorized into 3 main categories:

  • Category 1- Major cities- Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane
  • Category 2 – ‘Cities and Major Regional Centres’ of Perth, Adelaide, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Canberra, Newcastle/Lake Macquarie, Wollongong/Illawarra, Geelong and Hobart
  • Category 3 – ‘Regional Centres and Other Regional Areas (Include Designated regional area postcodes as per table in the link below)
