Additional Stay for Specific Degrees | Up to an additional 2 years for eligible graduates |

Second Post-Study Work Stream
Feature | Description |
Ideal for | Holders of a previous Post-Study Work or Replacement stream visa who graduated with a degree from a regional Australian institution |
Eligibility | Must have graduated from an Australian educational institution in a designated regional area and lived and worked in a regional area while on the previous visa. Eligibility for specific degrees may grant an extended 2-year stay. |
Length of Stay | Between 1 and 4 years depending on regional location of study and work on previous visa |
Additional Stay for Specific Degrees | Up to an additional 2 years for eligible graduates |
Application Process (for additional stay) | Lodge via ImmiAccount if already holding a Second Post-Study Work visa and qualify for the extension based on your degree. |

Important Announcement
The Australian Government announced changes to the Temporary Graduate visa programs in its recent Migration Strategy. These changes have come into effect from 1 July 2024. One major Change that has taken place is that the Replacement Stream has been closed off.
Basic Eligibility
To be eligible for skilled graduate visa 485, you must generally meet the following criteria:
Post-Vocational Education Work stream
You must
- be under 35 years of age.
- be in Australia when you apply for this visa.
- hold an eligible visa.
- have held a Student visa in the last 6 months.
- have a qualification relevant to an occupation on the skilled occupation list.
- have applied for a skills assessment in your nominated occupation on the skilled occupation list.
- provide evidence of adequate health insurance for all applicants when you apply.
- provide evidence you have applied for an AFP check when you apply.
- provide evidence of the required level of English with the application.
Post-Study Work stream
You must
- be under 35 years of age
- be in Australia when you apply for this visa
- have applied for and been granted your first Student visa on the basis of an application made on or after 5 November 2011
hold an eligible visa - have held a Student visa in the last 6 months
- have a recent degree in a CRICOS-registered course
- provide evidence of adequate health insurance for all applicants when you apply
- provide evidence you have applied for an AFP check when you apply
- provide evidence of the required level of English with the application.
Please Note: Select degree holders applying for an extension do not need to provide evidence of their English language proficiency.
Second Post-Study Work stream
You must
- be under 35 years of age
- be in Australia when you apply for this visa
- hold a Temporary Graduate visa in the post-study work stream, or hold a Temporary Graduate visa in the replacement stream and have held a Temporary Graduate visa in the post-study work stream, as the main applicant
- have a degree in a CRICOS-registered course from an education institution based in an eligible designated regional area, that led to the grant of your first Temporary Graduate visa in the post-study work stream
- have lived in an eligible designated regional area for at least 2 years before applying for the second Temporary Graduate visa in the post-study work stream
- have evidence of adequate health insurance for all applicants when you apply
